Firmer trend continues in pepper

Pepper markets continued to stay firmer on non-availability of farm grade pepper amid enquiries for the material. Sellers continued to stay away from the markets. Buyers were looking for the material but tight availability coupled with liquidity constraints was restricting them, trade sources told BusinessLine. Spot prices, as a result, shot up further by ₹300 a quintal to ₹66,100 (ungarbled) and ₹69,100 (garbled). December, January and February contracts on the IPSTA increased by ₹1,000 each to ₹69,000, ₹61,000 and ₹58,000 a quintal. Export prices were at around $10,800 a tonne c&f for Europe and $11,050 for the US.
