Pepper continues to rule steady


Pepper markets on Monday continued to stay steady on matching demand and supply. Arrivals stood at 20 tonnes and were traded at ₹695 and ₹700 a kg. Inter-State dealers were the buyers. Domestic demand is strong and part of it is met by Sri Lankan pepper being sold at ₹700,705 and 710 a kg in Chennai, Mumbai and Delhi. While 480 GL Vietnam pepper is reportedly sold at ₹675 in Mumbai, market sources told BusinessLine. Spot prices were at ₹69,000 (ungarbled) and ₹72,000 (garbled) a quintal. August, September and October contracts on the IPSTA were at ₹72,000, 71,000 and 70,000 a quintal. Export prices were at $11,000 a tonne c&f for Europe and $11,250 for the US. GK Nair
