Pepper prices in India is moving up and is expected to reach record high. Currently the highest price quoted for Pepper in the market is Rs 730 per kg and is expected to rise further.
Although the prices is expected to rise, the production is expected to decline due to the weather conditions in the major growing regions in India.
Pepper production is also expected to decline globally. India world’s third largest producer of Pepper produced about 70000 tons during 2015-16, and expects a production decline of about 15000 tons this season.
During January-July this year, Pepper imports from Vietnam to India rose 32 percent to 8772 tons compared with 6652 tons a year ago. Vietnam is the world’s largest producer of Pepper and is currently the cheapest source for the spice.
