Pepper continues to fall


The ongoing strike continued to pound the spot pepper market by pulling down its prices. There has been no trading inside the terminal market ever since the strike began on 17th, market sources told Business Line. Ten tonnes from Pulpally and Bathery in Wayanad and 7 tonnes from the high ranges arrived and that were traded outside at ₹700 and ₹703 a kg. Spot prices slipped further by ₹100 a quintal to close at ₹69,000 (ungarbled) and ₹72,000 (garbled) a quintal. August, September, October contracts on the IPSTA were steady at ₹72,000, ₹71,000 and ₹70,000 a quintal. Export prices were at $10,950 a tonne c&f for Europe and $11,200 a tonne c&f for US.
