Spot turmeric prices at Erode markets declined on Thursday. “Despite poor arrival of 3,000 bags, the prices did not improve. This is due to non-receipt of upcountry demand for the spice,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.
On Thursday, only 3,000 bags arrived for sale and fifty per cent stocks were sold. The buyers were keen in buying only the quality turmeric and they quoted ₹9,500 a quintal for hybrid turmeric.
Local hybrid was sold at ₹9,400 and the Salem Hybrid went for ₹9,900. The price of the finger variety was down ₹300 and that of the root variety by ₹400 a quintal.
