Spot pepper up on tight supplies


Spot pepper prices moved up on Wednesday on tight availability of high bulk density pepper. Primary market dealers in Kerala, farmers and dealers were not ready to sell at the prevailing prices. On the terminal market, six tonnes of allegedly tainted pepper were traded at ₹650 a kg. Four tonnes of High Range pepper was traded at ₹660-665. Sellers in Idukki claimed that Rajkumari pepper was traded at ₹670. Spot prices moved up by ₹200 a quintal to ₹65,600 (ungarbled) and ₹68,600 (garbled). All the active contracts remained unchanged. Export prices moved up to $10,600 a tonne c&f for Europe and $10,850 for the US.
