Poor quality arrivals grind turmeric


Spot turmeric prices decreased in Erode markets on the back of the quality of arrivals being medium. “Many turmeric farmers expected higher price, but traders quoted lower price due to arrival of medium and poor quality turmeric. In the Regulated Market Committee, the price was down ₹500 a quintal. Similarly, in the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society also the price decreased by ₹580. But new turmeric gained ₹100,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association. He said 2,500 bags of turmeric arrived for sale and 50 per cent was sold. At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,409-7,920 a quintal; the root variety ₹5,232-7,519.

Salem Hybrid: The finger turmeric went for ₹6,909-9,019 and the root variety ₹6,719-8,019.

New Turmeric: The finger variety traded at ₹5,837-7,809 and the root variety ₹5,344-7,609. Of the arrival of 619 bags, 217 were traded.

At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric fetched ₹6,869-7,820 and the root turmeric ₹6,489-7,299. Of the 569 bags on sale, 422 were sold.

At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric ruled at ₹6,438-7,888 and the root variety ₹6,169-7,539. Of the 348 bags offered, 333 found takers.
