Pepper continues to stay hot

Spot pepper prices continued to increase sharply on supply squeeze amid strong demand. Arrivals at the terminal market stood at 15 tonnes and that were traded. Inter-State dealers were reportedly buying directly from the doors steps of growers/primary market dealers in Idukki district at ₹650 a kg on cash-and-carry basis. On the terminal market, spot prices shot up by ₹1,000 a quintal to ₹62,000 (ungarbled) and ₹65,000 (garbled). On the IPSTA, February contract increased further by ₹1,000 to ₹64,337. Export prices were at $10,800 a tonne c&f prompt shipment.
